Key concepts

An app is the thing you build and share. It has one address, /app/<id>, and Studio lives at /app/<id>/studio. The app owns everything about itself: its name and cover, its versions, its data in the KV store, its Drive files, its integrations, and who can reach it.

An iteration is one round of changes in Studio — one prompt, one result. Iterations are your editing history; you can revert to any of them.

A version is what other people open. Pressing Done publishes the current iteration as a new version. Versions are immutable, and one is live for everyone, wherever they open the app. See Iterations and publishing.

Two settings decide what someone holding the app’s link can do:

  • Visibility — private (only people you add), unlisted (anyone with the link, not listed), or public (listed on Explore).
  • Link access — whether the link lets people request access, view the app, or use it.

The share sheet turns these into one choice under General access. See Share an app.

Everyone with access has a role in the app: Can view, Can use, Can edit, or Can manage. The creator is the owner. See Roles.

A group is a conversation with members and a shelf of apps. Sharing an app into a group makes the group an audience for it: members can open it with the role you gave the group. The group never owns the app — its owner can remove the app from the group, but can’t change its data, versions or settings. See Groups.

An app has one shared store and one Drive, wherever it’s opened. People reaching it from two different groups see the same data. Per-person data is a choice the app makes with keys and saved-data policies.

A remix is a new app copied from another one’s published version. It has its own address, data and history, and remembers where it came from. See Remix.
