Iterations and publishing

Available since v0.49.0

Every time the agent finishes a change, Studio saves it as an iteration, titled with a short note of what changed. The toolbar shows Iteration N; open it for Iteration history, where the newest is marked Latest and every older one has Revert.

Reverting doesn’t erase anything: it makes a new iteration with the old state, so you can always go forward again.

A version is what people other than you see. Press Done to publish the current iteration as a new version and make it live.

  • While only you can open the app, every finished change is published automatically. There’s nobody to disturb.
  • Once anyone else can — a person, a group, or anyone with the link — changes stay in Studio until you press Done, because someone may be using the live version.
  • Done waits until the agent has finished and has named the app.
  • Publishing never changes who can open the app. That’s the share sheet’s job.

When a collaborator who isn’t the owner edits a shared app, the button reads Suggest changes.

People who have the app open when a new version goes live see A new version of this app is available with Refresh.

Versions are immutable: publishing again always makes a new one, and old ones are kept. One version is live, and it’s the same everywhere the app appears — every group, every link, Explore.

Apps published from your own repository with maypop publish create versions the same way, one per publish, recording the commit they were built from.

On a published app, App settings in Studio opens the app’s settings:

  • Details — title, category and description.
  • Share — who can open it (same as the share sheet).
  • Files — the app’s Drive files.
  • Analytics — how the app is being used.
  • Advanced — Revert to draft takes the published app offline and back to a draft; Delete removes it.

Studio runs each app in its own cloud workspace (see The Studio workspace). After 25 minutes with nothing running it asks Still editing? with Keep editing and Publish; five minutes later it shows Studio paused. Reconnect picks up exactly where you left off — your iterations are already saved.
