Install the Maypop CLI

The maypop CLI is for building Maypop apps in your own editor, with your own framework and your own coding assistant — Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, or plain old typing. It publishes your repository to Maypop, generates media, and connects MCP servers. It is open source: basilica-digital/maypop-cli.

New to code? You don’t need any of this. Describe your app in Studio and Maypop builds it.

Using a coding assistant? Install the CLI, then follow Build with Claude Code or Codex.

Prebuilt binaries are attached to every GitHub release:

System Release target Archive
macOS on Apple silicon aarch64-apple-darwin .tar.gz
macOS on Intel x86_64-apple-darwin .tar.gz
Linux on x86-64 x86_64-unknown-linux-gnu .tar.gz
Windows on x86-64 x86_64-pc-windows-msvc .zip

Files are named maypop-<tag>-<target>.<archive>, for example maypop-v0.5.2-aarch64-apple-darwin.tar.gz. Download the archive and the .sha256 file next to it, verify, then extract:

Terminal window
# macOS
shasum -a 256 -c maypop-v0.5.2-aarch64-apple-darwin.tar.gz.sha256
# Linux
sha256sum -c maypop-v0.5.2-x86_64-unknown-linux-gnu.tar.gz.sha256
tar -xzf maypop-v0.5.2-aarch64-apple-darwin.tar.gz

On Windows, compare Get-FileHash .\maypop-<tag>-x86_64-pc-windows-msvc.zip with the first value in the .sha256 file, then use Expand-Archive.

Move maypop (or maypop.exe) into a directory on your PATH and check it:

Terminal window
maypop --version

With Rust and Cargo installed, build a tagged release:

Terminal window
cargo install --locked --git https://github.com/basilica-digital/maypop-cli --tag v0.5.2

Leaving out --tag builds the unreleased main branch.

Terminal window
maypop auth

The CLI opens Maypop in your browser and waits while you approve the device. It never asks for your password in the terminal. On a machine without a browser, maypop auth --no-browser prints the link and code to open elsewhere; --device-name "Work laptop" labels the device.

The approval page reads Authorize this device. The credential lasts 90 days; every signed-in device is listed under CLI access in your profile settings, each with Revoke access. Check which account the CLI is using at any time:

Terminal window
maypop status
