Build an app in Studio
Studio is where apps get made. You describe what you want; an AI agent builds it in its own cloud workspace, runs it, and checks it, while the preview updates in front of you. You never have to look at code, though it’s there if you want it.
Start an app
Section titled “Start an app”- From the new-tab page (
+, or app.maypop.ai/new): type intoWhat do you want to build?and send. - From a group: press
Create app for groupon the group’s shelf. The app is shared into that group when it’s first saved. See Apps in groups. - From an existing app: Remix it, then change your copy.
- From your own files: choose
Import appunder+and drop files, a folder or a.zip(up to 200 files, 50 MB each, 100 MB in total). Studio converts what it can to run on Maypop — including projects that relied on their own server for accounts, a database or storage.
Good first prompts say who the app is for and what they do with it: “A weekly chore rota for four housemates. Everyone ticks off their chores; on Sunday it rotates.”
Talk to change it
Section titled “Talk to change it”Keep chatting: “make the buttons bigger”, “add a leaderboard”, “let people upload a photo with each entry”. The agent:
- writes and edits the app’s files and installs packages it needs;
- runs the app and tests it at desktop and phone sizes;
- searches the web when it needs to look something up;
- generates images, audio or video for the app when your request calls for them;
- asks you questions when a choice is yours to make, and suggests follow-ups above the composer;
- names the app, writes its description, and makes a cover image.
Point at what you mean
Section titled “Point at what you mean”The preview toolbar helps you be precise:
| Control | What it does |
|---|---|
Select element |
Click part of the app; your next message is about that part. |
Edit text |
Change words directly in the preview. |
Preview size |
Check phone, tablet and desktop layouts. |
Light preview / Dark preview |
See both themes. |
Refresh |
Reload the preview. |
The console panel shows the app’s errors and can hand them to the agent to
fix. The Files panel lets you browse the code.
Attach files and images
Section titled “Attach files and images”Use +, paste, or drop files onto the composer — up to 5 MB each. The agent
sees images directly, so a screenshot, sketch or photo of a whiteboard is a
great brief. Attachments are reference material; the agent copies one into
the app only when the app should use it, like a logo or a data file.
Reference another app
Section titled “Reference another app”Reference an app (or @ in the composer) points the agent at an app you
can see — yours, one in your groups, or one on Explore — and asks it to
borrow an aspect: its style, a user flow, a component, an integration. Your
app doesn’t depend on the other one afterwards.
Pick a model tier
Section titled “Pick a model tier”Select model sets how hard the agent thinks:
| Tier | Good for |
|---|---|
Fast |
Quick, small changes |
Smart |
Most work (default) |
Pro |
Deep reasoning |
Higher tiers use more credits per step; Pro comes with the Pro plan. See
Models and costs for what each costs and when to
pick it.
Studio on your phone
Section titled “Studio on your phone”Studio works on phones. The app fills the screen and the chat is a sheet you
pull up from the bottom — half height to keep the app in view, full height to
type. Tap Select element and then a part of your app to talk about it.
Build together
Section titled “Build together”Anyone you give Can edit can open the app in Studio and build on it.
Everyone works on the latest state, and two people editing at once don’t
overwrite each other’s work.
